Turkey is one of the luckiest country that has various types of climate and four season. Mountains plateaus, deep valley, broad plain and being surrounded from three sides by sea shows the climate of Turkey. Because Turkey is between subtropical and temperate climate, different seasons can be seen on different climate zone simultaneously. There are four types of climate zones in Turkey:
1. Mediterranean Climate: Generally It is shown on mediterranean and aegean area. The most distinctive characteristics of this climate is its being too hot and dry in summers and being warm and rainy. It reaches 20 oC at the cost of east mediterranean. There are two types of Mediterranean climate in Turkey.
a. Humid Mediterranean climate: Snow and frost is seldomly observed. Average temperature on January changes between 8-10 oC. Rainy season is winter. Summers are hot and dry. Annual precipitation is 1000 mm.
b. Semi – Humid Mediterranean Climate: Average temperature on January changes between 5- 8 oC. Short duration of frost is often seen in winters. In this climate rainy season is also winter and summers are dry. Annual precipitation is between 600 – 800 mm and less than the precipitation in Humid Mediterranean climate.
2. Black Sea Climate: All the seasons are rainy along the coast of the Black Sea. Annual average temperature is between 8 – 10 oC. Annual precipitation is more than 1000 mm at the Western and Eastern coast of Black Sea. This amount reaches 2200 mm in Rize and Hopa. Although every season is rainy most of the precipitation falls in autumn and winter.
3. Steppe Climate: Whole middle Anatolian region, lakes district, Middle east anatolia, Southeast Anatolia shows typical characteristics of this semi steppe climate. Summers are hot and dry, winters are cold and rainy. Average Annual precipitation is between 250 – 550 mm
4. Continental Climate: Average winter temperature is below 0 oC. In January which is the coldest month, average temperature is between -8 - -10. The temperature of the hottest month does not exceed 20 C. Except for deep basin, plain and deep valley, annual precipitation is above 500 mm. During cold period, this reagon is exposed to snow and frost.Not:Alıntıdır
